Darkroom Days - 1960's
In the early 1960s I bought a used large format camera, set up a darkroom in the basement of our home in Massachusetts and began taking and developing black and white photographs. Here are some of the artsy photos I made at that time.
Chalice and Grapes
During my ministerial days I often used this pewter chalice in serving Communion.
Tree Stump
Designs in nature was a big thing then and I would walk in the woods looking for nature’s art.
Maynard’s Window
Maynard’s barn was next to the house and I was struck by the juxtaposition of the window, its broken glass, and the barn boards.
St. John’s River, Jacksonville, Florida
I taught for a year at The Bolles School in Jacksonville. This is the river with the sunset on the river behind the school.
Primordial Soup
Again the sun on The St. John’s River. It looks like the primordial soup that gave us life.
Lettuce #1
Design is where you find it and I kind of liked the interplay of light and dark on this simple head of lettuce.
Lee at the Window
There will be a section on portraits but I couldn’t resist this photo of a pensive Lee (my daughter) at the age of three in 1967.
