Harold Wilson’s guest on Delmarva Today is journalist and author Todd Miller. Miller talks about his book Storming the Wall, and the interface between climate change, human migration, and homeland security. Even as we reflect on the increased severity of fires, flooding, and droughts sweeping the globe, we often forget the attendant displacement of human populations. In his book, Storming the Walls, Miller reports that The International Organization on Migration estimates that human migration will reach about 200 million people by 2100. Anyone who watches the news knows that our own southern border is feeling this pressure as are borders around the world. Migration, Miller suggests is seen as a national security threat and our response – as well as that of other countries -- has been to militarize the borders. Miller argues that this response is unsustainable and suggests a different approach to border management.
