Doctor Michael Murphy is Harold Wilson’s guest to discuss the current significant increase in the pandemic and what it means for the near-term. Mike is a frequent visitor on the program and he’ll give us an update on the pandemic and information on the Omicron variant. He is an emergency medical physician and works primarily in Salisbury, Maryland and the surrounding Eastern Shore area.
It would be nice if the news were better this 2021 year end but as you all know we are in the midst of a significant spike in the pandemic. The New York Times of December 28 tells us “The omicron variant, first identified late last month in southern Africa, has sent infections soaring to levels not seen since last winter, bringing the total number of U.S. coronavirus cases since the pandemic began to more than 63 million, with more than 816,000 deaths.
The Times tracking data indicate that new cases reported on December 29 surpassed 489 thousand with a seven-day average of over 301 thousand. This is up from 109 thousand cases reported on November 30 and a seven-day average of slightly over 82 thousand.
Please stay safe and make sure you’re fully vaccinated. Vaccinations save lives. They work. Make sure you don’t show up as one of the numbers on The New York Times pandemic tracking system.
